Fees & Charges
Residential aged care in Australia is subsidised by the Australian Government. Depending on your individual circumstances, you may be asked to contribute to the cost of your care and accommodation. The fees you may be required to pay are outlined below.
Not all residents pay the same fees. The amount you contribute is based on an assessment of your income and assets and will be confirmed in writing before or at the time you enter care.
All residents receiving residential aged care, including both permanent and short-term (respite) care, are required to pay the Basic Daily Fee. The Basic Daily Fee is set by the Australian Government and is calculated as a percentage of the single basic Age Pension. The rate is reviewed and adjusted by the government twice each year in line with pension changes.
The Hotelling Contribution is a daily fee that contributes to the cost of accommodation-related and hospitality services within the home, including meals, cleaning, laundry, and the upkeep of shared and private spaces.
Whether you are required to pay this contribution, and the amount payable, is determined through a means assessment conducted by Services Australia. Your assessed contribution will be outlined in your official fee advice letter and may change if your financial circumstances change.
The Australian Government may subsidise part or all of this contribution, depending on your assessment outcome
The Non-Clinical Care Contribution is a daily fee that supports the cost of personal and supportive care services that are not medical or clinical in nature. As with the Hotelling Contribution, the amount payable is determined following a means assessment by Services Australia and detailed in your fee advice letter. Government subsidies may apply depending on your financial circumstances.
Residents entering permanent residential aged care may be required to pay an accommodation payment or contribution, depending on the outcome of their means assessment. Accommodation costs do not apply to short-term (respite) care.
If you are assessed as needing to contribute to your accommodation costs, you may choose to pay via one or a combination of the following options:
Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) – a lump sum that is refunded when you leave care (less any applicable deductions)
Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) – a non-refundable daily payment
Refundable Accommodation Contribution (RAC)
Daily Accommodation Contribution (DAC)
Your chosen payment method will be documented in your accommodation agreement.
For residents entering residential aged care for the first time on or after 1 November 2025, a retention amount of 2% per year (capped at a total of 10%) may be deducted from any RAD or RAC paid. This retention applies for a maximum period of five years.
If you have previously received a Home Care Package or are transferring between aged care services on or after 1 November 2025, different fee arrangements may apply.
We will review your individual circumstances and confirm which rules apply to you. You may also seek advice directly from Services Australia.

Estimated Daily Accommodation Payment

*Estimate only. Calculated using the current MPIR and may vary.
1/ As a lump sum refundable deposit, similar to an accommodation bond, this is called a Residential Accommodation Deposit (RAD)
2/ a periodic payment, called a Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP)
3/ or a combination of both.
A new resident has up to 28 days to choose whether to pay the agreed accommodation price by a refundable deposit, RAD; or daily payment, DAP; or a combination of both. DAPs can be paid by the Resident or drawn down from the RAD that the Resident has to pay to the provider.
This may occur if the Resident has elected to pay a combination of a RAD and DAP. The DAP is paid – unless and until – a RAD is paid.
In cases where no lump sum payment is received, or when the combination option is selected, The Residency by Dillons will require the Resident to complete the guarantee and indemnity provisions in the agreement.
